– A man who is supposedly mad has been arrested by the Rapid Response Squad

– The RRS reportedly found 22 ATM cards on the allegedly  insane man

About 22 Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) cards have been recovered from a supposed madman who was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

The man, who identified himself as Lanrewaju Jaiyeola, 39, was intercepted by the police following the suspicious manner in which he carried a backpack along Ozumba Mbadiwe road.

The Vanguard reports that a reliable police source said 22 assorted credit cards, one Nokia phone, a blackberry, a power bank, several bank tellers of recent bank transactions and lots of invoices, amidst numerous pieces of papers, were found on him.

The unnamed source also added that they discovered eight of the credit cards were still valid.

Out of these, three would expire in 2018, another three would expire in 2017, while two would expire in 2016, said the sources whose name was withheld.

All the credit cards bore different names and of various banks. Confirming the arrest, RRS commander, ACP Olatunji Disu, added that upon arrival at the RRS Headquarters in Alausa, the suspect made “statements suggestive of somebody disguising as a mad man to perpetrate crime around that axis.”

He said: “Initially, we noticed that he was mentally balanced because he was answering the questions posted to him ade-quately. But all of a sudden, he started sounding incoherent and illogical. “He threatened the investigative Police officer, saying ‘I will make life unbearable for you if you don’t let me go”.

In a similar event, the RRS recently arrested one fake beggar named, Kehinde Olatubosun. The 56-year-old man had for a while disguised as a sick patient and armed with fake drug prescription paper begged his way into six-figures.

According to his confessional statement, Kehinde who hails from Ibadan, told the police how he earned N300, 000 monthly.

Why FG may regulate social media

Why FG may regulate social media

  – NCC may regulate the use of social media

 – NCC says telecom operators doesn’t have control over their service.

The Federal Government may regulate the use of social media comprising WhatsApp messenger, BlackBerry messenger, Facebook, and Skype.

Premium Times reports that the Nigerian Communications Commission is contemplating on regulating over-the-top services in the country’s telecommunications market.
Nigerian Communications Commission may regulate social media use.

The service known as Over The Top services (OTT) are obtainable via networks, providing value to customers without collaboration with any carrier service provider that should be involved in strategising, selling, provisioning, or servicing them. These services are accessible through Internet Communication.   The most common OTT services use in Nigeria are WhatsApp messenger, BlackBerry Messenger, Facebook, Skype and they are all classified under social media applications. Internet telephony and live streaming are also part of OTT services.

Network providers like MTN, Etisalat, Glo, and Airtel doesn’t have control or guidance over these applications. OTT services are accessible via 3G and 4G networks which offer mobile broadband and high speed IP data.

According to a recent report published recently by the Policy,  & Economic Analysis Department of the Nigerian communications Commission titled: ‘An Overview of Provision of Over The Top [OTT] Services,’  said the services were becoming a threat to the traditional telephone network operators.

The report said the threat OTT pose to traditional telephone network operators is a global issue. This threat is as a result of the fact that Internet telephony is not only cheap, and free in some cases, but it also offers many features previously unavailable with telephones, therefore making it more attractive to consumers.

Another reason these services might be reviewed boils down to the fact that the operators of traditional telephone network pays tolls for their services while the operators of Internet telephony doesn’t pay any fees for their services.

The report said telecom operators like MTN, Etisalat, Glo and Airtel do not have control over WhatsApp, BBM, Facebook and the rest of the social media applications, therefore cannot make any money from the services offered by these applications.

“Many traditional telecom service providers are of the opinion that traditional telephony and SMS revenues are under threat from newer, IP based alternatives like WhatsApp, Skype, Viber etc.

“Similarly, third party web content and social networking companies such as Google and Facebook are increasingly generating huge revenues and driving high levels of data traffic which ride on the broadband networks of traditional telecom operators.

“To further worsen this issue, the traditional operators still have to make significant investments in upgrading their networks to handle the increasing volume of data generated by the same providers of OTT services.

“Most traditional telephone network service providers therefore argue that unless there is a revenue flow to them from such services, they do not have an incentive to continue to maintain or upgrade the networks,” the report said.

The NCC is of the opinion that there is need to regulate OTT services because they could also pose a security threat to the country“Because VoIP relies on your Internet connection, it may be vulnerable to many of the same problems that face computers..

“Because VoIP relies on your Internet connection, it may be vulnerable to many of the same problems that face computers.

“Attackers may be able to perform activities such as intercepting communications, eavesdropping, taking control of phones, making fraudulent calls from an account, conducting effective phishing attacks by manipulating one’s caller ID, and causing service to crash,” the report said.

Nigeria’s legal battle against Africa’s largest mobile operator- MTN, has gotten more fierce as Eric Holder, the former US attorney general, was called upon to defend the telecoms giant. The telecoms company hired the legal luminary to help it fight a record $3.9 billion fine imposed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for failing to disconnect unregistered sim cards.

Biafrans to wield weapons from Wednesday in self defense

Biafrans to wield weapons from Wednesday in self defense.

 – IPOB members say lack of weapons has exposed them to attacks

– Separatists back new intention with acts and declarations of the United Nations

– Reject terrorists’ tag by any world leader.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) members have resolved to start carrying guns in self-defence from Wednesday, February 17, 2016.

According to Igberetvnews, this disclosure was made by the Emma Nmezu, group’s spokesperson in Umuahia yesterday, adding that failure to carry arms had exposed its members to attacks and killings by security agents.

The statement read: “Now, we have come to the painful but irreversible conclusion and determination to take our fate and destiny in our own hands. Starting from Wednesday, February 17, 2016, ‘Biafrans’ will now be in the mode of self defence as enshrined by the relevant acts and declarations of the United Nations.

“Let no country or world leader attempt to tag us as terrorists because we are not terrorists, rather we are fighting for our survival and from being exterminated from the surface of the earth.

“We shall defend ourselves with everything and anything necessary to avoid the continual killing of our mothers, fathers, and children. This is the time for all Biafrans to rise and defend themselves. We cannot fold our arms and watch them kill us the second time after killing over two million of us in 1968.”

IPOB had in a statement last year September alerted the world on plans to provoke Biafrans into retaliation but got a tag of terrorist organization in return.

Meanwhile, Chris Adimora, the chairman of Anaocha branch of the NBA, commented on the repeating denial of bail to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Adimora shared his thoughts and observation with newsmen in his Onitsha office on Friday, February 12 thus: “The reasons adduced by the prosecution for refusing Kanu bail is not tenable. He did not commit any offence by having dual citizenship. He can’t be refused bail because his charges are still mere allegation which are not yet proven.”

OPC state chairmen call on EFCC to probe Gani Adams.

OPC state chairmen call on EFCC to probe Gani Adams.

  – OPC state chairmen asked President Muhammadu Buhari to proble Gani Adams

– The Chairmen accused Adams of financial impropriety

– They alleged he received money from Goodluck Jonathan but failed to give members of the group.

Trouble seems to be breeding within the foremost Yoruba group, the Odua’ Peoples Congress (OPC) as some state chairmen called on security operatives to probe Gani Adams.

Adams who is the national coordinator of the OPC was referred to as a former OPC national coordinator by the chairmen. They also accused him and his aides, Ogunshola Olugbade and Femi Felix, of financial impropriety.

The Punch reports that Mr. Maruff Olanrewaju, the chairman of the Kwara state chapter of the OPC who spoke on Sunday, February 14 called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate Adams

In attendance were the Oyo state coordinator, Chief Adeagbo Musediq; his Ondo State counterpart, Mr. Rotimi Akinsonwon, a member of the national coordinating council, Mr. Lateef Oshodi; a former national publicity and director of programmes, Mr. Sunday Bankole as well as some other national and Kwara state executives of the organisation.

The Kwara state chairman said the Delta state coordinator, Mr. Hakeem Agbo-ola; the Sokoto state and Kaduna state chairmen, Alhaji Yekini Salaudeen and Alhaji Rasaq Ogunsanwo respectively and that of Bayelsa State though absent were in agreement with their position.

“We also call on President Muhammadu Buhari and the EFCC to investigate all Gani Adams banks accounts; Ogunshola Olugbade’s account as well as Femi Felix account from February to November 2015.
“Moreso, President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration should give very closed monitoring to the bank and industry sectors because how can someone within a month save more than a billion in an account without any alarm from the bankers?”

He accused Adams of planning to storm Kwara state with hoodlums and said He was received from his position as coordinator because he disgraced the Yoruba race in the presence of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

“Just of recent, you are all living witnesses when a former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo went to Oni of Ife, he prostrated flatly before Oni. But when Gani Adams went, he just bowed his head with hand shake to Oni. That is disrespectful.
Adams is a disgrace to Yoruba culture. When you are promoting culture and you cannot bow in front of one of the most highly respect Oba in Yoruba land that is unacceptable.”

Olanrewaju alleged that former president, Goodluck Jonathan gave Adams N1.6bn to empower members of the group but the money was not remitted to them“Adams promised our members that if Jonathan released money, each member will get between N200,000 and N250,000 as empowerment. When Jonathan released N1.6bn through Musiliu Obanikoro, for that empower, there was nothing to show for it.

“He should explain how Jonathan’s money was spent. Before the election, there was a publication by a former National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress now Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed that Adams had collected N9bn from Jonathan to disorganize the Yoruba race. We denied that but later we came to the realization that truly he collected the money.

“At the first meeting after the election, he told us that he spent N800m on OPU outside the country. Where did he get the money? He also bought some properties. After the election, he went to London to establish Odua Voice Radio, which cost him thousands of dollars. Where did he get the money from if he did not collect N9bn from Jonathan?”

“Adams should explain how Jonathan’s money was spent. We demand immediate reaction to the allegation of $22m Gadaffi money. He should show to the world the registration certificate of Olokun Festival Foundation, Oodua Economic Empowerment Initiative and that of Oodua Voice Radio,”

Adams was also accused of boasting that he would mobilise votes for Jonathan from the south west but he failed.

So sad! 100 die as 17-storey building collapses.

So sad! 100 die as 17-storey building collapses.

 – At least 100 lives were lost as a building collapsed

– Local firefighters battled hard to recovered bodies of victims

– Some people are still believed to be missing under the rubbles of the collapsed building.

It was a horrible sight to behold as a 17-story building collapsed in the city of Tainan in Taiwan, Asia. However, the city’s police officers have apprehended the builder of the collapsed complex, Reuters reports.

According to Ellen Hsueh, a municipal spokeswoman in Tainan, she stated that the developer of the collapsed building known as the Wei-Guan Golden Dragon Building is in police custody with 2 of his colleagues. She said the name of the developer is one Lin Minghui.

Lin Minghui was arrested for criminal practices in relation to how he designed the building.

The actual cause of the collapse was as a result of an earthquake that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, February 13. At least 39 bodies were recovered by rescue operators from the site of the rubbles of the building.

According to New York Times, an earthquake struck Tainan in the early hours of February 13. Almost all the parts of the 17-storey building came down.

When the incident occurred, some residents who live close to the building were not fortunate as scores of them were killed.

Prosecutors have filed a case against the developer’s company. The charge is bordered on suspicion of professional negligent homicide. This is because there were some irregularities in the manner the building was constructed by the developer.

Indian woman cuts off brother-in-law's penis mid-rape

Indian woman cuts off brother-in-law's penis mid-rape.

 – An Indian woman is in police custody after cutting of her brother-in-law’s penis.

 – She said he had raped her and gave his penis to the police as proof.

 – The alleged rapist hanged himself after losing his manhood.

A mother-of-three chopped off her brother-in-law’s genitals while he was raping her before handing them in as evidence at a police station in India

The 32-year-old woman stunned officers when she entered the station in the Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh, clutching the severed organ.

The woman, who was accompanied by her three children, told officers that it was the only way to stop her brother-in-law attacking her.

The woman was staying with her brother-in-law as her husband worked more than 700 miles away, in Nashik, Maharashtra.

However, he had allegedly assaulted her many times while she stayed in his house.

She told police that she faked consent when her brother-in-law attacked her, before hacking off his privates with a sickle.

Before the police were able to get medical support to the injured man, he had already committed suicide.

“He allegedly committed suicide because of humiliation,” said town inspector Arti Chourate.

“Her parents-in-law didn’t come to know about the incident as the entire incident took place early in the morning and also because he didn’t make any noise.”

His body was reportedly found hanging from a tree near their house.

According to Sidhi police spokesman Abid Khan, the woman has been charged with attempted murder.

Indians have called for the death penalty to be used on convicted rapists

“This is a rare case and has to be investigated for a proper charge sheet,” he said.

“The accused woman is shaken…due to the entire episode. She is presently in the village. We have registered a case against her under section 307 and will soon take her in our custody.”

He later added that the woman is mentally stable and does not regret her actions.

This is the second incident in a week of a man’s private parts being chopped off in India.

On Wednesday, a 24-year-old man in Bhopal was allegedly sedated and castrated by unknown eunuchs.

The local police force in Bhopal are continuing to search for the eunuch gang.
