JTF Reportedly arrests militants who blew up Agip Oil pipelines

The pipeline was set ablaze in Ikienghenbiri community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa state, following a clash between rival armed groups over alleged disputed surveillance contract.

Sources reveal that the incident, which occurred at about 2am on Sunday, May 22, caused panic in the riverside community with many residents fleeing their homes to neighbouring communities.

This latest attack on oil facilities, comes on the heels of calls by ex-militants in the Niger Delta under the aegis of Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative (LPCDI), on reneged militant groups in the region to stop attacks on oil and gas pipelines to allow President Muhammadu Buhari fulfill his electoral promises to the region.

The armed youths from Ikienghenbiri community  were arrested for allegedly blowing up a major oil pipeline line owned by Agip with dynamites.

The armed men, who attacked the pipeline in the swamp of Azuzuama-Ikienghenbiri axis of the trunk conveying the crude oil from Tebidaba to Brass terminal, were allegedly led by Suoyou, Iyelawei and Fyneboy.

A statement, yesterday, in Yenagoa by the state commissioner for information and orientation, Jonathan Obuebite, said that the pipeline vandals were apprehended by youths of Azuzuama community, who got wind of the attack.

On the pipeline that was set ablaze, an indigene of Ikienghenbiri community told our reporter that the armed groups were locked in struggle for control of the Tebidaba-Brass crude trunk line, which passed through the area.

“The armed men vandalized the pipeline along Azuzuama-Ikienghenbiri axis of the Tebidaba-Brass pipeline with dynamites and also ignited fire on the line. The vandalized point is still on fire,” said a community service personnel.

Another source, said: “We understand that it is a conflict between two armed groups for access to the crude pipeline, one group claims to be working to safeguard the pipeline and said that members of the other group are vandals, they have been shooting.

“The sound of the gunfire is scaring and there is no sign of the Joint Task Force, JTF, soldiers who are supposed to be patrolling the area, we have not seen any soldier.” According to him, the pipeline was set ablaze while the two groups engaged each other in a gun battle,  adding that there was no way to ascertain if there was any casualty.

Nigeria Labour Congress[NLC] calls off strike

 – NLC calls off strike after several deliberations

 – The president of the NLC, Ayuba Wabba says the decision to call off the strike came “

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) on Sunday, May 22, called off its nationwide strike. Speaking to journalists, the president of the NLC, Ayuba Wabba said the union is calling off the strike after several deliberations. Wabba said the decision to call off the strike came after an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council of the NLC.

“After an exhaustive deliberation, NEC noted its protest action was informed by the twin issues of the unjustified and illegal hike in electricity tariff and increase in the pump price of petroleum products,” Wabba said.

He also said the council adjudged that the strike action is a success in spite of both internal and external challenges the union faced during the period.

“In consideration of the above, NEC after due consultation with its constituents resolved to suspend with immediate effect, the action it commenced on Wednesday, May 18, 2016. The action is thus hereby suspended,” he said.

He commended all those who participated in the action, stating that the union is committed to genuine dialogue within the framework of internationally established  and recognized principles of representation with it and the Nigerian government.

He further condemned the activities of the security operatives especially the police in Ebonyi state. Also present at the briefing include, renowned activist and lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN).

The labour unions had embarked on an industrial action on Wednesday, May 18, to force the federal government to revert to the pump price of petrol from N145 to its former price of N86.50. However, the strike lasted just three days.

Is it true?, US says they've found the location of Chibok girls

US says it knows where the Chibok girls are

 – The American forces locate the Chibok girls abducted by the Boko Haram two years ago

– The US officials say that some of the captives may be turned to the suicide bombers

– They assured the relatives of that the abducted Girls have not been abandoned

The American officials said that the joint forces of the USA and African countries have found the whereabouts of the clusters of the Chibok schoolgirls abducted by the BokoHHaramsect two years ago.

However, the rescue operations have not been carried out because of fears that any succeeding battle with the insurgents would put the hostages at risk, or provoke some form of revenge against captives still being held in other areas.

According to the officials, a combination of local intelligence, intercepted communications and drone footage had been used to find groups of the girls this month.

15 of the Chibok girls shown in the recent video.

At the same time, they claimed that efforts to free the girls have not been left. The officials said that a key concern is the hundreds of other women and girls who are also held by Boko Haram, captives who are often raped, forced into marriages with their abductors, and sometimes killed retired head of the United States military Africa Command Gen. Carter F. Ham said: “You’re not just looking for 200 girls. There are many, many others who have been taken hoshostagend more thousands killed, and two and a half million people displaced.”

The intelligence reports show that the girls have been separated into smaller groups.

Gen. David M. Rodriguez, the head of the military’s Africa Command, added that the Chibok girls have been “moved to some very isolated places.” He continued that locating them is “not an exact science.”

“So the challenge is, how do you find lots of people held hostage in different places? That’s really complex and it stretches the capability of local forces,” General Ham added.

About 200 American drone operators worked with local troops to collect intelligence on Boko Haram and the location of its many captives.
In the related development, there are reports that the insurgents are increasingly using its captives as suicide attackers.

Col. Badjeck Didier, a spokesperson for Cameroon’s Defense Ministry, said recently that he worried that some of the Chibok girls may have become suicide bombers.

He said: “When we see the kamikaze bombers, they have the same age — 14-15 years — as the Chibok girls. A recent video released by Boko Haram that purported to show proof of life of a number of the Chibok girls — something the Nigerian government had demanded as a condition of negotiations — was a sign that the group wants to negotiate.

The mothers of missing girls who identified their daughters

“These women did not chose to become suicide bombers, but after two years of incarceration and bearing children of these men, some of them had to buy in out of personal survival,” Sanderson said.

“I do think that Boko Haram has considered using these girls to kill their rescuers. And that would cause people to have spasms over what that symbolism meant,” added Tom M. Sanderson, director of the transnational threats project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

On her own part, Samantha Power, the United States ambassador to the United Nations said that the Special Operations forces sent by President Obama were doing “surveillance, intelligence and reconnaissance” and would continue their efforts to locate the Chibok girls..”

“I want to assure the parents of the Chibok girls and the parents of any children gone missing that, indeed, the United States is in this for the long haul,” she said.
The video, obtained by CNN, showed 15 missing girls in robes identifying themselves.

It is believed to have been made on December 25 last year during negotiations between the government and parties claiming to represent Boko Haram.

Two of the three women to whom the footage was shown identified their daughters; a third was upset that it did not show her daughter.

The abduction of the 276 girls caused the global social media campaign #BringBackOurGirls, involving US first lady Michelle Obama.

Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the sect, shortly after the kidnap said the girls had converted to Islam and he threatened to force them into marriage with his fighters or sell them into slavery..

Mikel handed Super Eagles Captain band by Siasia

Mikel emerges as new Super Eagles captain, Nigerians react
I want to thank Ahmed Musa for being a wonderful professional. It takes a man to come out and do what he has done today. I commend him a lot. It will be a new Super Eagles with a new approach.”

This was Mikel’s remark shortly after Ahmed Musa surrendered the Super Eagles captain armband to the Chelsea star at a press briefing in Kaduna state.

“Mikel is my senior and a big brother. So, Mikel is the captain, not me,” Musa said.

However, the change in the team’s leadership comes barely 24 hours to the crucial 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier against the Pharaohs of Egypt in Kaduna state.

But while some have showered accolades on Musa for his humility, others questioned his appointment in the first place.

For Coach Samson Siasia, the change marks the beginning of great things to come for the country’s football.

According to him, Musa will now assist Mikel in his new leadership role.

Siasia said: “Ahmed (Musa) is a great player and has captained the Super Eagles for a while. So, it takes a good man and a great professional to do what Ahmed Musa has done today, he has earned my respect for doing that.

Rivers state as the new Wild Wild West

Rivers state as the new Wild Wild

– Two political gladiators are currently in a battle of supremacy in Rivers State

– Governor Nyesom Wike, Rotimi Amaechi are at the center of the conflict

– The battle is for the soul of Rivers state

Amaechi and Wike in supremacy battle for the soul of Rivers state

The two political gladiators in Rivers State and their fanatical and murderous supporters must know that Rivers state is greater than the ambition of any politician.

In their quest to gain or sustain power by all means necessary they must know that by the time their violent rage is done, there will be no more state to govern.

Now it’s a shame that the bloody trail of violence these shameless gladiators and their barbaric supporters have left is the perception of a state which has become the most dangerous comparable only to the three north-east states under the vicious grip of Boko Haram terror war.

The only difference is that in Rivers, it is the politicians and their thugs that are unleashing fear and terror on helpless residents.

They give the impression that everyone in the state is a politician or a party supporter. Dear Amaechi and Wike, the people of your state deserve to be protected from the violence your thugs are unleashing on the people. Rivers state is greater than the two of you.

To understand why Rivers state has become Nigeria’s new Wild Wild West is to understand why our brand of politics has always been that of a do-or-die.

With the unending violence in Rivers, politicians in Nigeria’s oil-rich region have taken violent politics to a new and unpredictable level. It is having an adverse effect on the socio-economic life of the state.

The violence in Rivers presents a different scenario from the typical political violence that has characterized Nigeria’s democratic experiment.

The fact that it has become endemic makes it dangerous not just to the entire South-South region but also for the entire country.

As I ponder on the debacle in Rivers, I have come to the conclusion that the violence that has greeted every election could not just be because these politicians love the people so much that they are ready to die for them.

It could not be because they want to serve the people that they have turned their entire state into a war front.

The desperation by politicians could only be about one thing. The scramble for the resources of Rivers is at the center of this unprecedented political battle. Rivers state is one of the richest states in Nigeria.

It is home to large deposits of Nigeria oil. So one has the sense that the rivalry is about who controls the resources of Rivers rather the altruism to serve the people.

The struggle for political dominance in Rivers is also about the ego of the former political friends who have found themselves on two sides of political divide.

The story has been told of Governor Nyesom Wike and former governor and now Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi had been in the same political camp. Wike at the time was reputed to be Amaechi’s enforcer-in-chief.

With the manner Wike has been standing up to his former boss, it seems he has learnt the tricks that made Amaechi emerge as the strong man of Rivers and south-south politics after his political tutelage from his former boss, Peter Odili. Now Wike is the new kid on the block.

Regrettably, both he and Amaechi have become the new face of a bloody chapter in the history of the state. Another backdrop to the violence that has engulfed River state is the politics that has pitched the All Progressives Congress with the Peoples Democratic Party.

The genesis of the rivalry can be traced to the 2015 general elections. The then Governor Rotimi Amaechi had been the arrow head that antagonized the re-election of former president Goodluck Jonathan.

It all began in 2013 when Amaechi as the Chairman of the governors’ forum had sought to get re-elected for a second term much to the disapproval of the Jonathan.

The fallout of the election saw the former president supporting the David Jang faction after the election in which Amaechi was widely believed to have won.

Then, the battle line was drawn. The aftermath of the governors’ forum led to the dismembering of PDP when Amaechi led other disgruntled governors to form the new PDP that later merged into the grand alliance that is now APC.

Since then, it has been violence all the way. The 2013 state assembly fracas and the controversy over the appointment of a chief judge culminated in a bloody 2015 election which pitched APC’s candidate, Dakuku Peterside with the incumbent governor, Nyesom Wike. Political thugs unleashed violence on the state and people died.

The politicians created an atmosphere of fear. Residents dared not venture out of their homes. As people lost their lives, all they did was point accusing fingers and law enforcement agents could not bring anyone to book for the violence that characterized the election.

The same scenario played out in the re-run that took place in on Saturday, March 19. Prior to the re-run, an APC chieftain was beheaded. His wife and son were also killed. The conflict also led to the death of two soldiers who were on the trail of thugs.

During the re-run, the state erupted in violence as thugs invaded polling areas shooting at people leading the Independent National Electoral Commission to cancel election in about eight local government areas.

What is worrisome in the Rivers situation is that law enforcement agents seem powerless in face of the violence. What one can conclude from the lethargy of law enforcement agents is that they have become compromised.

No doubt also, the militarization of socio-political life in region has manifested in the violence that has become the face of every election.

The politician is also to be blamed for the turn of event in Rivers and the entire region. During the campaigns, politicians openly use threatening words.

Violent rhetoric dominated the campaigns as threats were issued even in police presence. When politicians use threats and incite their followers with hate campaign, it can only lead to one predictable outcome.

For one, the violence in the state may be the beginning of worse things to come. It’s a shame and the political elite in the state should blame themselves for what the Garden City and their entire state has become.

As I have said earlier, it must be emphasized that Rivers State is greater than any politician. Now because of the ambition of the two men, lives are being lost.

Since 2013, the people of Rivers have been living in fear. Political thugs and their sponsors have made the state very unsafe for the people of Rivers.

The situation is even said to be worse in the riverine areas. Rivers has never known peace. From militancy and now to political violence, politicians must thread softly before Rivers become another Somalia.

Law enforcement agents must not take sides in this conflict. Both Amaechi and Wike must tame their ambitions and call their supporters to order. Peace must reign in River state.

Nigeria Police 2016 recruitment set to commence

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has warned that there would be no short-cut into the Nigeria Police Force in the recruitment of 10,000 personnel.
President Muhammadu Buhari had in 2015 approved the recruitment of 10,000 policemen at the National Security Summit in Abuja.

In a statement Wednesday, Ikechukwu Ani, Head, Press and Public Relations of the commission, told journalists that Mike Okiro, Chairman of the commission, gave the warning while unveiling a portal for the exercise in Abuja.

The statement said that the portal would be opened to the public on April 1 to herald the commencement of the exercise.
“The process leading to the recruitment of 10,000 Policemen as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari at the National Security Summit in Abuja last year, has commenced,” the statement said.
It said the unveiling of the portal was in actualisation of the presidential directive on the recruitment of the 10,000 Policemen.
The statement noted that the exercise was remarkable because there had not been recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force for more than five years.

It said that thousands of policemen who died in the course of service, dismissed or retired, had not been replaced since the last five years.
The statement stressed that the recruitment would strengthen and re-energise the force to tackle more security challenges facing the country.
It explained that the exercise could not begin last year because the funding was not captured in the 2015 budget.

The statement urged interested applicants to access the portal through the commission’s website:  http://www.psc.gov.ng/or that of the Nigeria Police Force:  http://www.npf.gov.ng./
It said that no fee would be charged for the processing of the forms which would be filled on-line.
“We are not charging money. It is free, absolutely free,” it said.
The statement said that the exercise would be in three entry points of Constable, Cadet Inspector and Cadet ASP, while there would also be recruitment into the Specialist cadre.
It said that applicants for Police Constables are expected to possess five credits including Mathematics and English Language at Senior School Certificate Examination in not more than two sittings.

It said that for Cadet Inspectors, in addition to having the requirements of Police Constables, candidates would be expected to have an Ordinary National Diploma (OND), Advanced Level (A level), National Certificate in Education (NCE) or their equivalents.
The statement said Candidates for Cadet ASP must possess a University degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND).

Jamb at it again- 59,000 candidates to retake jamb exam-JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Friday said the board would reschedule examination for candidates who missed the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination because of relocation of centres by the board.

The board said it relocated 59,000 candidates in 15 states because of problems in some of the centres. It also said candidates who had system failure during the examination would retake it, if the board finds their complaint to be genuine.

The Registrar of the board, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, who said this at a press conference in Abuja, added that the new development does not affect candidates who missed the examination deliberately or failed in the examination. Ojerinde said among the 1,546,633 candidates that sat for the 2016 UTME, 145,704 had issues of multiple results, which have been resolved by the board. Prof. Ojerinde added that 23,577 candidates were absent on the day of the examination. “We relocated candidates where the board had challenges. The board is looking at some of the issues raised during the examination, but most of the excuses raised by candidates are flimsy,” he said. “We relocated about 59, 000 candidates due to the problems in various centres which vary from town to town. There are about 59,000 of them spread across 15 states of the federation. “Those that were relocated never suffered any setback or inconvenience.  For all these two sets of people, I want to apologise sincerely for what happened to them, but we are going to put on a redress for those whose relocation affected them in missing their examination. “Let me use this opportunity to offer explanation on the issue of the much-publicized two results. The process of our marking involves transformation and other qualitative programming. In the process of these configurations, we had a little challenge which we quickly corrected and ensured that this never happened in subsequent results. This challenge was only associated with the candidates that sat for this examination on Saturday, 27, and some candidates of Monday, 29 February, 2016.”

Prof. Ojerinde said the board found out that some of the over 500 centres used for the CBT was compromised by the operators. He said that one of its centres in Uromi, Edo State was invaded by mercenaries during the examination. He blamed the education consultants for mobilizing candidates to protest against the conduct of the examination by the board, adding that the quality of the centres used for UTME would not be compromised. He said: “In our quest to have adequate and effective centres for the exercise, we approved over 500 centres, but unfortunately, some of the centre operators were not sincere in proving us with the true position of their facilities. “They hired equipment during the period of accreditation and other necessary apparatus and on the examination day, they were found wanting. This led to relocation or rescheduling of candidates from some of them to more suitable centres.”

Ojerinde said Nigeria was ready to take the CBT examination, adding that reverting to the PPT as directed by the House of Representatives would amount to lack of progress. According to him, the CBT would be improved upon. He said: “Even the physically challenged are taking the CBT examination. One of the blind candidates scored 286, so why should others complain? “Going back to the Paper and Pencil Test will amount to taking one step forward and two steps backwards.” The Nation.

The most important stimulant of sexual desire is testosterone. Many men are mistakenly sent to have a blood test for total testosterone when low libido is the issue. Men who do not enjoy sex at all already have a problem of testosterone, a hormone that is responsible for erection.

Moreover, these type of men in their youths does not have anything to do with sex and they are referred to as the Eunuchs. However, they are not the same as homosexuals. Homosexuals enjoy sex with the same sex. It is not that they do not have sex.

 2. Turn off from sex

Some men get bored with sex that is not fulfilling to them and they turn off from sexual activity. This can be related to specific things that his partner does during sexual intercourse. This type of men feel criticized or may have sexual interest that he knows or fears his partner may not share.

3. Disagreement with spouse

This has to do with some women. A woman could become a nag. When a man has a nagging wife who becomes a terror at home, the husband would rather not have sex with her. If he has to beg her for sex or the woman uses sex as a weapon to punish him, then his interest will be lost completely.

According to Dr Fadeyi, we have to differentiate men who do not want to have sex with their wives and those who do not enjoy sex. Those who do not want to have sex with their wives have extra-marital affairs. These type of men do not have erectile dysfunction. The wives have pushed them out of the home. It is either the couple is sexually incompatible or the wife is becoming difficult.

4. Stress

Another reason is that they lose interest when they undergo a lot a stress. Stress comes in many forms; it could be financial stress, emotional stress, stress at work, bad economy, no money to pay children fees. These type of men, according to Dr Fadeyi, are called stress induced. Unlike women who can fake an erection, it is either you have an erection or you do not have an erection, he says.

 5. Masturbation

Some men self stimulate in a particular way and train themselves to trigger ejaculation and orgasm in that way only. For some women, this issue is a blessing to them while for others it is a frustrating and disappointing outcome. It is advisable that a partner knows her man’s erotic idiosyncrasies’ as some men take their sexual desires into their own hands by masturbating to porn videos, movies and so on.

6. Erectile dysfunction

Many men who have an erectile dysfunction that leads to loss of libido or total impotent avoid having sex with their partner because they have difficulties functioning sexually.

7. The woman is no longer attractive

When you are attracted to someone, your whole body switches on. Attraction is a symphony in which different instruments- the voice, charisma, and body language play a part it is like you get in the mood for love. A woman who was pretty when you marry her and suddenly by the time she starts giving birth, she became fat, obese then the husband can no longer take her out. A woman can have sex without enjoying it. If a man does not like the partner, he will not have an erection. In addition, if the wife suddenly becomes dirty, having body odour, sweat, the man will lost interest.

8. Health issues

Health issues like heart problems, hypertension, heart attack, kidney problem might reduce the urge for sex, says Dr Fadeyi.

9. Drugs

Anti-depressant drugs, pain relievers, anti-anxiety drugs and others can also lead to quick ejaculation and orgasm

 10. Impairment

However, when a man pays too much attention to his partners’ experience, he loses erotic focus, which can interfere with ejaculation and orgasm. If the problem is erectile dysfunction, you will need to see a urologist. But if it is because the relationship has gone sour, they you go and see a marriage counselor. Meanwhile a woman will have different reasons that have tampered with her sex life. Therefore, a visit to a doctor first, is the best option. When she meets with the doctor, she will tell why she is not enjoying sex, so the doctor will be able to follow up from there. But basically, everybody must see a doctor, Dr Fadeyi advises.

Solomon Arase, the Inspector-General of police has given tips to help Nigerians stay safe and security conscious especially within the coming Easter celebrations.

The Inspector- General of police has called on Nigerians to be security conscious within the coming Easter celebration

Arase, while commending the police and community members for their roles in the rescue of three abducted pupils of the Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary, Ikorodu, Lagos, appealed to Nigerians to employ only Nigerian domestic help.

Represented by the Assistant Inspector-General of police, Zone 2, Mr Bala Hassan, he noted: “We do not have anything against people from Ghana or Cotonou but if you want to employ domestic workers, ensure that they are Nigerians so that when they escape, you know where to find him or her. “You can even meet with your Divisional Police Officer to know whether he or she had committed a crime elsewhere before you employ one.”

The police chief added that: “People will travel for the Easter. It is not a must you get to your destination on the same day. When night falls, you can park your car and sleep in a hotel. “Easter is like Christmas and I know Nigerians like gifts. Do not open your door to anybody that brings a hamper. It could contain an explosive device. “Do not give criminals opportunities. Do not leave a ladder close to your residence. “Children will also visit recreational places. Parents should watch over them so that they will not be tricked with ice creams.”

Meanwhile, in a move to ensure terrorism in the country is laid to rest, the Nigeria police force will on Friday, March 18, inaugurate the first phase of the deployment of policemen in liberated communities in the Northeast.

According to Mr Arase, over 6,000 personnel of the force would be deployed in communities in the Northeast to restore police primacy and civil authority.
